WHAT IS FLY FISHING?

Fly fishing is a unique technique that uses artificial flies to catch fish. Anglers mimic the real movement of the insect, hoping to catch the fish when it jumps from the water to eat the fly. Anglers use a fly rod, which is similar to a traditional rod but holds the line differently, and the line holds the fly. The fly is chosen based on the kind of fish being targeted and resembles native insects that are common for the area. To cast the line, the angler gently throws the fly in the middle of the body of water and lets it bounce gently on the surface. When a fish takes the fly, the angler must flick the rod up to hook the fish. Once it is hooked, they gently pull the fish into a net, being careful not to break the line.

Fly fishing is a tedious fishing method that requires time and patience. It is best to study the water and the natural ecosystem, then aim to mimic it as closely as possible.

WYOMING FISHING LICENSE COST

Wyoming state regulates fishing activity in an effort to preserve fish populations. There are laws outlining fishing seasons, gear, and the actual size and amount of the fish caught. They also require that each angler holds a license before venturing into the water. All license fees are used for fishery management, research, conservation efforts, habitat development, and endangered species programs. Buying a license online is ideal but there are certain vendors through the state that will sell hard copies. There are different licenses available; the biggest difference is largely how often an angler intends to fish in Wyoming. Non-residents typically purchase the lower-tiered options. The state requires all anglers 14 or older to hold a fishing license.
