WYOMING HORSE PACK TRIP

If you want to be forever changed by the vast expanse of craggy cliffs and idyllic valleys that make up the Bridger Teton National Forest, untouched and raw just like it was when the earliest human inhabitants saw it 11,000 years ago, then a Wyoming horse pack trip is for you. Wyoming’s landscapes are a breathtaking sight to behold on foot and even more majestic to absorb from the back of a horse.

Let yourself escape through time while you pick along a mountain trail, where the loudest sounds to hear are your horse’s footsteps. After a long day of riding at a comfortable pace, you reach your destination. Having carried everything you need on your pack horse, you are free to explore as you please, untethered to a location, electricity and permanent shelter.

HORSE PACKING TRIPS

A Wyoming horse pack trip is a truly unforgettable experience, full of moments where life just seems to be standing still. This stillness leaves room for you to notice and feel things that the buzz of everyday life might cause you to miss.

There will certainly be plenty around you to stimulate your mind and creativity, as Wyoming is home to over 100 different species of mammals and over 400 species of birds. It offers a unique and distraction-free setting to build deeper and more inspired connections with your companions, nature and Mother Earth. A well-known Australian sustainability professor coined this feeling as eutierria, describing it as “a good and positive feeling of oneness with the earth and its life forces.” This feeling lies where “the human-nature relationship is spontaneous and mutually enriching.”

Horse packing trips are more complicated than traditional camping trips, as you need to know how to care for the animals in addition to having knowledge of the territory. Glamping on the Greys provides all the knowledge and equipment needed for the trip so you don’t have to worry about a thing and can enjoy your experience to the fullest.

We offer horse pack trips ranging from one night only to two nights or more, exploring destinations that are deeper into the heart of the wilderness. While it is definitely a rustic experience, we make sure you are well-fed by our chef who will accompany you, and that every need is catered to at the hands of one of our experienced wranglers. Spend a half day or a full day riding, set up camp and relax, fish, or take a hike on one of the scenic trails here.

Pack trips are unique in that they allow you to explore places that are much farther off the beaten path than a normal ride would allow. In these areas, animals have less contact with humans and you never know what you will see when out on a ride. In early spring, the hibernating animals are rising from their dens – bears with cubs in tow and foxes with their kits – all looking to learn new life skills. For a few weeks during summer, the area is flooded with the colorful wings of butterflies that recently emerged from their cocoons. During autumn, herbivores begin to migrate from higher-elevation areas to find food as the temperature drops.

It’s not always easy to know what to bring on a Wyoming horse pack trip, much less how much of it to bring.
